The Edo State Police Command announced that an unspecified number of travellers waiting to board a train from Igueben in Igueben Local Government Area of the state to Warri in Delta State, were kidnapped by suspected herdsmen, while some of them passengers sustained serious bullet wounds from the deadly attack, the Punch reports.
The Edo State Police Command Spokesman, Chidi Nwabuzor, revealed this bad news in a press statement that the armed herdsmen attacked the train station at about 4pm, while the passengers were waiting to board the train to their various destinations.
The Edo State Police command also noted that they couldn’t ascertain the specific numbers of people who were whisked away by the kidnappers, but the numbers of those who attacked the train were very large and that was why they could carry out the attack successfully without any hindrance.
The statement also noted that after the armed herdsmen were done with their operation, they kept shooting sporadically in the air, while they kidnapped the passengers into the nearest bush and made their ways into the forest.
He said, “This is to inform the gentlemen of the press that today, 7th of January, 2023 at about 1600hrs, unspecified number of Herdsmen armed with AK 47 riffles attacked the train station at Igueben, Edo State and kidnapped unspecified number of passengers who were waiting to board the train to Warri.
The armed herdsmen who shot sporadically into the air before kidnapping some passengers left some persons with bullet wounds.”
Nevertheless, the Commissioner of Police, Edo Police Command, disclosed that the passengers who sustained bullet wounds from that attack are currently receiving medical treatments, while some security agents have been deployed to comb the bush and rescue the kidnapped train passengers.
