At midnight on Wednesday, the Edo State Police Command said that it had busted a ritual shrine at a building along Asoro slope, off Ekenhua Road, Uzebu quarters in Benin, recovering 20 mummified remains and detaining three male suspects.

According to a news release issued by Deputy Spokesperson Jennifer Iwegbu, the arrest was made possible by information made available to the police.

During the operation, she added, officers from the Edo State Police Command retrieved twenty bodies from the shrine.

Chimaobi Okoewu and Oko Samuel, two of the accused, are originally from the town of Afikpo in the state of Ebonyi, while Gideon Sunday is the third suspect.

Operatives from the police department are exerting their best efforts to capture any other fleeing suspects connected to the incident.

The deputy police spokesman said that out of the 20 bodies that were found, 15 were men, three were females, and two were children.
