Political conversations in Rivers State have taken a new turn following comments by prominent political commentator and APC chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, who suggested that party loyalty has become largely irrelevant in the state’s current political climate.
His remarks, which were shared via his Facebook page, quickly ignited widespread debate across social media platforms and among political stakeholders within and outside the state.
In his post, Igbokwe argued that Rivers State has effectively moved beyond the traditional boundaries of party politics, insisting that the state now belongs to what he described as the “Renewed Hope family.”
This phrase is closely associated with President Bola Tinubu’s political agenda, and Igbokwe’s statement positioned former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as a key driver of that vision in the South-South region.
According to Igbokwe, longstanding party labels such as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) no longer define political allegiance in Rivers State.
Instead, he suggested that loyalty has shifted toward a broader political movement centred on governance style, influence, and alignment with the current federal administration. In his view, this realignment reflects the growing dominance of a political coalition that cuts across party lines.
The comments were widely interpreted as a strong endorsement of Wike’s political influence, especially at a time when Rivers State continues to experience political tension and internal power struggles.
