The hoodlums responsible for the attack on police patrol team and killing of a police officer in Ebonyi State have been trailed and dislodged from their enclave by a joint security operation, involving the Department of State Security Service, military and police on Monday.
Five suspected fighters of the notorious criminal gang were killed and two others captured by the security operatives, Sahara Reporters gathered.
In the successful raid, weapons and live ammunition were recovered by the security operatives. Also, two suspects believed to be native doctors preparing charms for the notorious criminals – locally referred to as Unknown Gunmen – wrecking havoc in the South east.
The suspected native doctors were identified as 50 years old Irem Ogbeji Nwaduma; and Itumo Edeh Omukwor, who is 63 years old. They are both from Ndufu Echara Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
This was disclosed in a statement by the state police command Public Relations Officer (PRO), SP Chris Anyanwu, during press briefing in the Police Headquarters on Wednesday.
Speaking on the ongoing security challenge being faced in southeast region, SP Anyanwu urged residents to aid security operatives with credible intelligence reports about the activities of the criminals.
