The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has set up a committee to go and meet Governor Nyesom Wike over the lingering internal issues.
A report by The Punch stated that this high-powered committee is made up of the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar (Head), Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, Chairman of PDP Board of Trustees, Senator Walid Jibrin. Others are PDP governors, former governors, ex-PDP minister and some party elders from zones and states who would be part of the delegation to Wike.
Most importantly, they would visit the Rivers Governor and beg him not to dump the party with his allies amid defection rumours that have bee circulating. Jibrin went ahead to state when they would set out for this mission. According to him, they would go as soon as Atiku and Ayu return to Nigeria as they are currently out of the country for something.
From all indications, this is a new and high-powered committee set up to undertake this assignment. It would be recalled that Atiku had initially set up a reconciliation committee to meet and appease appease Wike. He, Okowa, Ayu and some of the bigwigs mentioned above were not part of that committee.

But it appeared that Wike did not give the first committee the kind of opportunity they needed. Also, the allies of the Rivers Governor have been kicking against the committee’s overtures saying that it was unnecessary. Wike’s allies also said that the deed had been done adding that they would follow any direction the Governor gives them after he was treated unfairly. It is not clear if he would listen to this new committee when they visit him.
