Poor state of Afiesere road junction Ughelli
A Chieftain of the People Democratic Party (PDP) in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Freeborn Ovwemejephan has called out the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa over the decaying state of infrastructures in the state, particularly in Udu Local Government Area of the State.

Ovwemejephan while bemoaning the poor state of infrastructures in the state, described parts Udu road and Udu bridge constructed during the military administration of Late Samuel Ogbemudia as “a pool of Bethesda as residents now go there day in, day out for the water”.

Ovwemejephan, a two-time PDP Councilorship aspirant, an adherent Supporter of the present Udu Local Government Chairman and the Coordinator, Consensus for Greater Udu, a pro-PDP group emphasised that his statement has become “imperative due to the fact that the Udu main road as it is, is almost becoming impassable.”

The statement generated various reactions on several social media platforms, eliciting reactions from the PDP and APC members resulting in heated debates.

Reacting to the statement, the Convener of the Coalition for Delta Interest, Comr. Austine Kpedi, said “I commend Freeborn Ovwemejephan for coming out boldly and courageously from the shell of ‘party supremacy’ that has kept many of the PDP chieftains and indeed our state in the condition of ‘suffering & smiling.

“The poor state of infrastructures in Delta State is alarming across all the senatorial districts in our state. The PDP has manipulatively held our great state hostage in disguise of governance since 1999 till date with no tangible contribution to advancing the state.

“A few months ago, we cried out for help on behalf of the students and pupils who are attending public schools in Delta State. We saw videos and photos of them seated under linking roofs without desks while learning during school periods.

“The present condition of the Udu road and Bridge which has become a death trap calls for concern. We are not unaware of worse situations in Okpe Isoko, Ughelli, Isoko/Asaba road, and Ogwashi-Ukwu/Ubulu-Uku Road amongst others. With billions of naira coming to the state as monthly revenues, Deltans are intentionally left to suffer in penury.

“I urge Deltans to look towards the best alternative as the 2023 election is around the corner. It is time to show the PDP the exit door from our dear state. It is time for fresh air. Let’s Build A New Delta with distinguished Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress (APC) because he has the EDGE to advance Delta State.

“We cannot continue with another deceit of “Road Master” on television while Deltans cannot drive a half kilometer of a road without the hindrance of potholes.

“Deltans must be conscious of the campaign of ‘MORE’ by the PDP supporters. The future of the questionable ‘MORE’ is certainly more indebtedness, poor infrastructures, backwardness, looting and lack of accountability”

Other commentators also blame the leadership of the Delta State government for the lack of infrastructure in the state. One MC K Igho wrote, “roadmaster #govokowa nor Dey do anything, na carpet road he do for places and all don scatter, We the youth are praising bad and sleeping government all in the name of the party and Oga mi, na God go help us.”
