Serious Fight Breaks Out at PDP BoT Meeting as Party Members Exchange Blows A meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT) descended into chaos on Wednesday as a heated dispute over the party’s National Secretary position led to a physical altercation between members.

The conflict, which erupted at the PDP headquarters in Abuja, involved Samuel Anyanwu and Sunday Ude-Okoye, both of whom are laying claim to the party’s National Secretary seat.

Tensions flared when Ude-Okoye arrived at the meeting venue before Anyanwu and Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Iliya Damagum.

However, upon Anyanwu’s arrival, Ude-Okoye was forcibly removed, triggering a violent confrontation as supporters from both camps clashed.

The National Secretary position has been a contentious issue since Anyanwu vacated it to contest the Imo State governorship election, which he ultimately lost.

In his absence, the PDP South East Caucus endorsed Ude-Okoye as a replacement, leading to a deepening power struggle within the party. In a ruling on December 20, 2024, the Court of Appeal in Enugu declared Ude-Okoye as the rightful National Secretary.

However, Anyanwu has refused to back down, filing for a Stay of Execution while pursuing an appeal through his legal counsel, Dr. Musa (SAN).

The latest confrontation underscores the growing internal crisis within the PDP as it grapples with leadership disputes and factional divisions. Party officials have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, but concerns are mounting over the impact of the ongoing feud on the party’s stability ahead of future elections.

As the legal battle continues, PDP stakeholders are calling for urgent intervention to restore order and unity within the party.
