The Imo State Police Command said on Monday that they killed three of the perpetrators of the attack at the state headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during a hot pursuit while capturing two others alive with bullet wounds.
Gunmen attacked the INEC facility along Port Harcourt Road in Owerri, the state capital, on Monday morning. The heinous attack killed four people, including a police officer.
Mike Abattam, a spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, told Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily that an investigation is underway to identify the group responsible for the heinous act.
Mike Abattam said, “We are currently investigating. The outcome of our investigation will determine who will be held accountable.
“We gave them a hot pursuit. The Command’s tactical teams were able to track them down and neutralize three of them in the process.”
Three AK-47 rifles, three pump-action guns, two improvised explosive devices (IED), petrol bombs, charms, and other dangerous weapons were recovered, according to the police spokesman.
