Gunmen killed two and injured several others in a Wednesday night attack on Oko, Anambra State.
The assailants, arriving in a black, unmarked Lexus SUV and on a motorcycle, opened fire at Total and Tipper junctions around 8:40 pm. Two people were also abducted.
Police Spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga reported that a combined security team, including police, army, navy, civil defense, and local vigilantes, responded swiftly and secured the area.
While confirming fatalities and injuries (including a young woman receiving treatment), the Police described the attack as cult-related and stated that an investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators.
The Police are urging residents to remain calm and cooperate with authorities. Condolences were offered to the victims’ families.
