The Delta State Government (DTSG) has proscribed the Association of Unregistered Private Schools across the state with a pledge to overhaul the education sector in the state.

The Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, stated this today when owners of recently closed private schools in the state paid him a visit in his office in Asaba.

According to the commissioner, the existence of the association runs contrary to the directive of the state government on registration of private schools in the state.

Ashibogwu maintained that the recent closure of some illegal schools in the state was part of the process in overhauling the education sector, adding that issues, such as graduation parties, annual changing of textbooks and non compliance with the approved curriculum and calendar, would be addressed in due course.

LResponding to the request by the school owners to give them more time to fully key into directives of the state government, the education commissioner maintained that the decision earlier taken by the state government remained unchanged until the affected school owners did the needful in line with the laid down directives by the state government.

“It came to me as a surprise that an association exists for unregistered schools in the state.

“Though, freedom of association is guaranteed by our constitution, but,I made bold to proscribe this association from this day as its formation is contrary to the directives of the state government on registration of all private schools.

“Let me add that a total overhauling is on its way and motion is in place to address issues concerning graduation parties, yearly changing of textbooks and non compliance of some schools with approved curriculum and calendar as approved by the state government.

“We are not going back on our decision ; your schools remain sealed until you follow all the necessary steps required to get your operational licenses,” the commissioner said.
