Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has addressed recent accusations by elder statesman Edwin Clark, who alleged that Wike is leveraging his influence with President Bola Tinubu to intimidate Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara.
Clark, in an open letter to the PDP national leadership, had called for Wike’s expulsion, accusing him of attempting to undermine Rivers State’s stability.
In a media briefing marking his first year as FCT Minister, Wike refuted Clark’s claims and emphasized that handling crises is a fundamental aspect of leadership.
“In leadership, everything must not be smooth; I had my own crises when I was in office.
Did I blame anybody? No,” Wike said. He argued that Fubara should face his current challenges directly, as part of his role as a leader.
According to Daily Post, Wike also addressed past criticisms from Clark, who had previously opposed his gubernatorial candidacy in 2014, citing it was the turn of the Ijaw ethnic group.
Despite this opposition, Wike succeeded in the election.
“I wasn’t a bad person when I supported an Ijaw man to be governor, but I have become a bad person because of these issues,” Wike added.
He reaffirmed his belief that effective leadership involves confronting and resolving conflicts rather than avoiding them.
