….30 Young Men Arrested

Thirty young men who have always been collecting illegal revenues from motorists and other people on various highwways in Anambra State have been rounded up by men of the state police command during raids on their operating points in the state, the command announced on Sunday.

The men, who were said to have been collecting the illegal revenues for some time, were arrested at various points in the state including Tarzan Junction, Owerri Road, Upper Iweka Road, Ochanja Junction, Awada Road, Onitsha Head Bridge, Kara Junction, Atani road, while extorting money from motorists and other members of the public.

It was gathered that the police operatives, acting on tip-offs, swooped on the areas of operation of the men who were collecting illegal revenues and eventually arrested the 30 men who were eventually taken to the command’s headquarters.

The names of those arrested, whose ages were put at between 16 years and 44 years, were given as Ifeatu Onuebube, Akpa Ikechukwu, Linus Ekene, Nwede Chinedu, Nwigwe Osinachi, Nas Emeka, Uduak Linus, Obi Onyebuchi, Ayo Omah, Igwe Chukwuebuka, Nweke Abuchi, Anthony Chidi, Onyebuchi Ndubuisi, Onyekwelu Ifechukwu.

Others were Nwagha Nzube, Anamabu Somto, Duru Chigozie, Onwuakpa Chukwudi, Nworie Chimaram, Orji Onyebuchi, Nnamani Chukwuebuka, Ifeanyi Chinedu, Igwe Ifeanyi, Eze Andrew, Nwafor Bernard, Ifeanyi Junior, Nweze Obinna, Amadi Obinna, Emmanuel Charles and Agala Timothy.

Their arrests at the various points on the highways were announced by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Ikenga Tochukwu, in a statement posted on the Facebook wall of the command, adding that they are currently under investigation after which they will be prosecuted.
