The need for Ika traditional rulers to lend their support to the search for a lasting solution to the incidence of incessant kidnappings and general insecurity in Ikaland has been highlighted.

Speaking at this year’s Ogwa Ika which held at Igbodo, on Saturday, the Chairman of Ika South Local Government, Hon. Jerry Ehiwarior, said there was need for the traditional institution to get more actively involved in the search for lasting solution to the menace of insecurity in Ikaland.

“In our search for lasting solution to kidnapping and other forms of insecurity in Ikaland, we must look at our traditional institution to assist us. Our fathers must be involved, and should seek ways to deal with the issue using traditional approach.

“Our royal fathers must show deeper commitment in this fight against insecurity in our land. Their fatherly role is needed at this point,” he stated.

The local government chairman also called for the inputs of religious leaders in the area, adding that their support would go a long way in solving the challenge.

While noting that insecurity was hampering socio- economic activities, especially farming, across Ikaland, the chairman said his administration was ready to support any effort and suggestion aimed at ending insecurity in the local government area, adding that a peaceful and progressive Ikaland was possible.
