Renowned Philanthropist and Security Consultant, Mr. Lucky Ehiwuogwu Monye, has advocated for an urgent intensive advocacy against what he termed the alarming incidence of drug abuse among Nigerian youths.
He said the trend, left unchecked, could harm the society by worsening its insecurity.
In a video message on the subject from Abuja, Monye, who is the Founder of Monye Ehiwuogwu Lucky Foundation, said all hands must be on deck to fight the current scourge of hard drugs abuse among youths and teenagers.
He linked the worsening insecurity in the society to hard drug abuse and said that all stakeholders needed to mount an intensive advocacy campaign against the scourge.
Narrowing the incident to the Ika nation from which he hails, Monye , who spoke in his Mother Tongue, noted that the worsening trend of drug abuse had begun to manifest in ebbing youth interest in formal education and skill acquisition, their flimsy resort to anti- social acts, including cultism, burglary and vandalism of both private and public assets, as well as the inclination towards the crime of money ritual.
Lacing his message with apt proverbs, Monye, who is also the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Monaco Ventures Nigeria Limited, urged parents and guardians to recommit to their primary obligation of proper child upbringing, and for other stakeholders , including the traditional institution, religious leaders, opinion influencers and security agents to collaborate to mount the campaign to avoid what he termed the long ,-term effects of the ongoing trend of hard drug abuse by youths.
Stressing that youths are the future of the society, he warned that allowing the situation to continue would breed a future generation of adults of unstable mind , and who cannot, on that account, sustain the tempo and quality of the growth and development of the society.
