It’s no longer news that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa would vacate office on May 29, 2023. This expected vacancy is already reverberating in the polity and key players are already gearing up to run for the Governorship Position. However, the contest is more visible within the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP). Prominent among those jostling for the PDP Governorship Ticket include

  1. Senator James Manager

The 60years-old Manager is the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District at the Nigerian Senate. He was pioneer PDP Chairman in Delta State, serving between 1998 and 1999. Manager later served as Delta State Commissioner for Works, a position he held until 2003 when he was elected into the National Assembly.

  1. Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi

The 62years-old Gbagi is a Businessman, Lawyer and a Former Minister of State for Education. He hails from Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State. Gbagi was One of the Three Founding Members of the PDP in Delta State. He contested in the 2014 PDP Gubernatorial Primaries but lost to Senator Ifeanyi Okowa.

  1. Rt. Hon. Sheriff Obrevwori

Oborevwori is the incumbent Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, He is a Second-term Lawmaker representing Okpe State Consistuency. He was previously a Special Adviser to Ex-governor Ermmanuel Uduaghan on Land Security, a position he held from August 2007 to September 2010.

  1. Hon. David Edevbie

The 57years-old Edevbie is currently the Chief of Staff to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. The Financial Guru and thorough bred Technocrat has an extensive Banking experience in the United Kingdom. Edevbie who hails from Ughelli North Local Government Area was previously the Delta State Commissioner for Finance, a position he held from 1999 – 2007 and later 2015 – 2019.

  1. Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie Agas

Agas, a Legal Practioner turned Politician is one of the Outstanding Political players in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State. He wad a one-time Member of the Delta State House of Assembly and later served as Secretary to the Delta State Government (SSG). The Political Strategist was the Director General of Governor Okowa’s Campaign in 2015.

  1. Chief James Aguoye

Aguoye is presently the Honourable Commissioner for Works in Delta State. The Former Councillor coordinated the PDP Campaign in Okpe Local Government Area in build-up to the 2015 General Elections. Shortly after Okowa’s emergence as Governor in 2015, Aguoye was appointed as Commissioner for Works.

  1. Barr. Peter Mrakpor (SAN)

The 55years-old Mrakpor who hails from Ughelli South Local Government Area is currently the Delta State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice. Prior to his appointment as Commissioner in September 2015, he was a Senior Partner in the Law Chamber of Peter Mrakpor Esq.
