Determined to ensure cleanliness in Asaba, Delta State capital, and environs, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Area, Mr. Obi Kelvin Ezenyili, yesterday, inaugurated a Door-Door Street Sanitation Committee Task Force to ensure that business places and residential premises were in clean condition.
The taskforce/committee comprised members of the House Committee on Environment, Oshimili South Local Government, Supervisor on Environment, HOD Environmental Department and its designated staff, HOD, Legal Department and Supervisor, Special Duties.
Ezenyili, while inaugurating the taskforce, in his office, yesterday, said it was part of the policy of the local government to ensure a safe and healthy environment for residents and persons doing business in Oshimili South local government area.
“The task force would ensure that every business place/residential premises has a receptacle of waste collection, ensure the immediate environment, drains, streets and access way are regularly kept clean, and to ensure a strict compliance with the weekly Thursday sanitation of markets and business areas”, he stated.
He also added that the committee was to prohibit the activities of illegal trading/business of all sort likely to be injurious or to contaminate the environment and any other responsibilities related to or connected to ensuring a conducive environment in Oshimili South local government area.
Ezenyili, while congratulating the task force and committee members, charged them to execute their duties with utmost diligence and ensure a strict compliance to the relevant environmental laws and regulation in the state.
According to him, the committee was at liberty to co-opt any other person(s) that will aid in the actualisation of its duties.
In his acceptance speech, the Committee Chairman, Kelvin Nwabueze said it was a privilege to be inaugurated as the chairman committee, promising to work with utmost dedication and commitment to ensure the state capital had a clean and safe environment.
In the same light, the HOD, Legal Department, Barr (Mrs.) Ndidi Nwaolu, assured that the committee members will do their utmost diligence to ensure that they discharge their duties without fear of favour.
