The Executive Chairman of Aniocha South Local Government Area, Hon. Pastor Jude Chukwunwike, was earlier today decorated with an “Award of Excellence” at the 21st Nigerian Local Government Chairmen Merit Award (LOGMA). The event which was held at the National Merit House, Maitama, Abuja, was attended by dignitaries from all works of life.

In his welcome address, Otunba Olusegun Runsewe, CON, Director General of the National Council for Arts and Culture, while presenting the award to Chukwunwike highlighted that the the third tier of Government was long overdue for autonomy.

He also stated that council chairmen are the closest to the grassroot and are more connected to the people than any other tier of government.

Consequently, there is great need for LGA chairmen to be respected and helped to achieve their set goals in the community citing instances where heads of Local Government receive an average of 80 phone calls in one day because they are the people that our communities deal with on daily basis.

Out of the 774 LGAs in Nigeria, only 28 LGA chairmen were profiled with adequate background check before they were nominated for the prestigious awards.

Hon Chukwunwike thanked the organisers for the award dedicated it to the almighty God. He thanked His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi A. Okowa and the good people of Aniocha South LGA for giving him the opportunity to serve.

He was accompanied to receive the award by his wife, Mrs Ella Chukwunwike, Secretary to the Local Government, Prince Emordi Okonjo Herbert, his Senior Special Adviser, Mr. John Odiaka, an aide to the chairman, Mr Osita Chijiuwe, and the Council’s Information officer, Mr. Sammy Okonta.
