Delta State recorded Seven(7) casualties during Cholera outbreak which ravaged mostly communities within the coastal areas.

Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaime made this known in Asaba, Delta State capital while briefing the press on measures taking to contain the scourge.

He said only about 8 local government areas of Warri North, Warri South, Warri south west, Ughelli North and South, Bomadi which are coastal communities, Oshimili South others are worst impacted with the pandamic.

Dr Onojaime clarified that Cholera is a bacterial infection which usually spread if not controlled when infected persons come in contact with persons in affected areas.

He clarified that the risk factors include poor sanitary conditions, consumption of contaminated food, drinking unclean water and eating of not properly cooked food. Whilst Signs and symptoms are passage of watery loose stool to Dehydration.

While fielding question from reporters, he informed that the state recorded about 138 cases but largely, the disease has been contained, adding that disease surveillance and notification officers have been able to do a lot of advocacy to our people to ensure safe and clean environment .

The health commissioner advised citizens to properly cook their food properly , sanitize drinking water and maintain regular hand washing and clean environment.

“We have Educated them on this, the causes of the disease is majorly poor sanitary environment. We’ve told them about it: simple hand washing We’ve educate them on this, drinking, portable water while ensuring that they eat properly cooked meals.

In addition to all these, he informed that the ministry of Health have given them treatment, provided tablets to purify their water and so far so good, the disease is under control.

At the press briefing were the commissioner of Information, Dr Ifeanyi Osuoza, also known as Agenda and the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Sir, Festus Ahon.
