The Environment Department of Aniocha South Local Government Area on Tuesday took the council’s Environmental Health Initiative to the streets, cleaning up and evacuating the refuse that had clogged up the drains at Ishiekpe Quarters, Ogwashi-Uku.
The essence of the exercise, according to the Head of Environmental Department, Mrs. Rosemary Igbodo, is to minimize the devastating effect of flooding in Ogwashi-Uku.
“The rainy season is here and we have to
put everything in order, else the rains will chase people out of their homes.
“When the drains are cleared, flood water will flow freely through the drainages as expected without causing havoc. We are doing this clean up to remind the people that our officials will not take indiscriminate disposal of refuse lightly in this year’s rainy seasons”, she explained.
