Volunteer Security Outfits (VSO), particularly the local vigilante groups in Agbor, the seat of power, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State, have been given a thumb-up for their efforts in the fight against crime and crime commission within the locality.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Agbor Division of the Nigerian Police, CSP Idris Haruna who gave the commendation at the weekend in Agbor when members of Ebuogba 2 unit of the local vigilante in the area paid him a courtesy visit in his office, enjoined volunteer Security Outfits in the area and beyond to ensure they discharge their duties within the armbit of the law.

The police boss, while lauding the activities of local vigilantes in assisting the regular security agencies towards containing the unwholesome activities of hoodlums in the area, particularly lauded the efforts of Ebuogba 2 unit of the volunteer Security Outfit for their doggedness, resilience and commitment towards ensuring a crime-free society within the area.

He noted that the commendation had became imperative because, according to him, since the emergence of the vigilante group in the area, the area had become a no go area for criminally-minded individuals just as he added that the operation of the vigilantes in that particular unit, has been seamless.

Our Correspondent reports that the group; Ebuogba 2 unit of the local vigilante, had, during the courtesy visit, unveiled a newly procured operational vehicle which, according to the unit Chairman of the vigilante, Engr. Ebenezer Azobu was procured through the efforts of members of the community.

Unveiling the vehicle at the Agbor Division of the Nigerian Police, CSP Haruna expressed appreciation to members of the Ebuogba community for the feature which, according to him, would go a long way in enhancing the operational drive of the vigilante group.

“This is indeed commendable. I want to thank you immensely for your efforts so far. I am particularly pleased with your efforts in helping to curtail the unwholesome activities of hoodlums in your area.

“I am particularly pleased because, unlike some areas, we have never heard any bad report about you and your operation. That is an indication that you are indeed doing well and working in accordance with the dictates of the law.

“I want to use this medium to enjoin all volunteer Security Outfits in this area to ensure that they work within the ambit of the law” CSP Haruna said.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and chairman, Ebuogba 2 unit of the vigilante group, Engr. Ebenezer Azobu had told the police boss that they were in his office to formally inform him of the purchase of the operational vehicle and to also, unveil the vehicle at the Agbor Division of the Nigerian Police.

While appreciating the police boss for his encouragement and professional guilds to the local vigilante, the vigilante chairman assured him of his readiness alongside his men towards assisting the police and other security agencies in ensuring that the area is relatively crime-free

Engr. Ebenezer Azobu was accompanied on the visit by the leadership of the unit who included, the vice Chairman, Mr. Daniel Izebuje, Mr. Uwabor Ebenezer, Mr. Chuks Ebuh, among others.
